Meet Dr. Thomas Doud - Low Vision Optometrist

Dr. Thomas R. Doud, O.D.

Originally from Battle Creek, Michigan, Dr. Doud attended St. Philip High School. He would go on to attend Central Michigan University, where he would major in chemistry. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Dr. Doud began studying at Ferris State College of Optometry in 1986, where he would receive his Doctorate in Optometry.

As a staff optometrist at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, he gained extensive experience in the treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes. Returning to Michigan, he joined the staff of one of Michigan’s busiest refractive surgery centers. There, he enjoyed experience in the care of cataract and Lasik surgery patients. Dr. Doud opened Hartland Eye Care in 1992, bringing all of these experiences into his own practice.

In 2000, in response to the myopia epidemic, Dr. Doud began myopia management. He then opened the affiliated Visual Learning Center in 2003 to help care for patients with Learning related visual problems.

Dr. Doud and his optometrist wife Sandy have raised three daughters in Brighton and are involved in various ministries with St. Patrick church. In their spare time they enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.
